May 7, 2007 — Second Generation MTP Media Player Firmware Raises the Bar
Handsets, media players, GPS navigation systems, and other devices are all incorporating multimedia capabilities such as music and video playback, camera functionality, and web browsing. Major automotive and consumer electronics manufacturers, content websites, Windows XP, and Windows Vista now support MTP-capable devices directly. In this dynamic and growing market, MCCI® recognizes the need to simplify the end user's experience by making it possible to unify access to all media content through a single user interface. The newest generation of MCCI MTP firmware achieves this by indexing all media content in a single database. Ready-to-use standard configurations and a flexible configuration methodology let OEMs differentiate via new format support, camera/video integration, and customized indexing and query generation. This framework makes it easy to reconfigure for multiple products.
In addition, MCCI has incorporated a high level of handset integration, including simultaneous call handling during media playback and synch. The high performance database is extremely reliable and recovers automatically from corruption. The database also defends itself against malicious content and malformed command exploits, which can be demonstrated and tested using MCCI tools. MTP shares many firmware components with PTP/PictBridge, so if both are required, the implementation is highly efficient. In summary, second generation MCCI MTP firmware provides a framework for OEMs to rapidly deliver differentiated, highly integrated MTP support.
