SuperSpeed USB DataPump 3 Press Release

MCCI USB DataPump 3 Released to Embedded Product Developers
Industry Leading USB Software Adds New Features, Supports USB 3.0 SuperSpeed

ITHACA, NY, September 7, 2010

MCCI Corporation, the world’s leading developer of USB software for portable devices, today announced the release of a new version of its embedded USB stack. The MCCI USB DataPump® 3 is a complete USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 SuperSpeed host and device stack for embedded products such as cellphones, portable navigation devices, set-top boxes, and other consumer products. Earlier releases of the MCCI USB DataPump have been deployed in several hundred million consumer products.

SuperSpeed USB support in the MCCI USB DataPump 3 goes beyond just implementation of the new 5Gbps protocol. According to Terry Moore, CEO of MCCI, “SuperSpeed USB places demands on hardware and software that weren’t envisioned twelve years ago when USB 1.0 products were first introduced. We’ve taken special efforts to optimize critical paths in the MCCI USB DataPump 3 to ensure users can take advantage of the full capabilities of SuperSpeed USB.”

Also new to the MCCI USB DataPump is support for high performance networked devices with the addition of Network Control Model (NCM), an improved USB network protocol co-authored by MCCI. "NCM is critical to achieving the benefits promised by 4G wireless connectivity, which typically requires 100Mbps downlink, 50Mbps uplink, and no more than 30% CPU dedicated to USB. With NCM, we're able to reach those metrics on realistic platforms," Moore said. The USB Implementers Forum approved NCM in August 2009 as part of the evolving USB standard.

MCCI USB DataPump 3 was validated with MCCI’s full complement of USB protocols as well as MCCI’s PictBridge and Media Transfer Protocol solutions. Lead customers have taken delivery of the MCCI USB DataPump 3, which is now available for general release.
